Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the comparison of self-resilience, self-efficacy, and vocation of Korea Armed Forces Nursing academy (KAFNA) cadets and civilian nursing college students.
Methods: This study was a descriptive comparative study. 121 KAFNA cadets and 117 civilian nursing college students participated in this study. Data were collected from July 1 to July 22 using structured questionnaires. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficients. The structured questionnaire consisted of 32 questions of self-resilience, 23 questions of self-efficacy and 24 questions of vocation.
Results: The mean of self-resilience was 3.71¡¾0.35 for KAFNA cadets and 3.37¡¾0.48 for civilian nursing college students (t=5.64, p<.001). In addition, the mean of KAFNA cadets' self efficacy was 3.42¡¾0.53 which was higher than 3.11¡¾0.48 score of civilian nursing college students (t=4.81, p<.001). And the mean of vocation for KAFNA cadets' and civilian nursing college students was 2.89¡¾0.60, 2.39¡¾0.62 respectively (t=6.32, p<.001). Finally, the degrees of self-resilience, self-efficacy, and vocation for KAFNA cadets' were higher than that of civilian nursing college students. There was a statistically significant difference between the degrees of self-resilience, self-efficacy, and vocation for KAFNA cadets' and that of civilian nursing college students.
Conclusion: Based on this study results, in order to strengthen the self-resilience, self-efficacy, and vocation, it is necessary to develop educational nursing curriculums for disasters or emergencies. Therefore these education can lead to the development of professional nursing capabilities as well as disaster nursing capabilities.
